ALICE FIT Data Processing and Performance during LHC Run 3

چکیده

During the upcoming Run 3 and 4 at LHC upgraded ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) will operate a significantly higher luminosity collect two orders of magnitude more events than in 1 2. A part upgrade is new Fast Interaction Trigger (FIT). This thoroughly redesigned detector combines, one system, functionality four forward detectors used by during 2: T0, V0, FMD, AD. The FIT monitor background, provide feedback to LHC, generate minimum bias, vertex centrality triggers, real time. offline analysis data be extract precise collision time needed for time-of-flight (TOF) particle identification. heavy-ion collisions, also determine multiplicity, centrality, event plane. electronics designed function both continuous triggered readout mode. In these proceedings simulation, software, raw processing are briefly described. However, main focus on performance, trigger efficiencies, time, resolution.

Performance of the ALICE TRD with first LHC collisions

In December 2009 a milestone of the ALICE Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) [1] was marked when the detector was turned on to record tracks of particles produced by first stable beams in collision at the Large Hadron Collider. We report here the performance of the detector during the ensuing data taking period of 2 weeks. Of the 18 TRD supermodules, 7 are currently installed in the ALICE setu...

Particle identification at LHC: Alice and LHCb

The Alice and LHCb collaborations equipped their detectors with many technologies to identify particles in a large momentum range, both in the barrel and the forward regions. The methods used are described and some details on the hardware implementation are given. A few physics results illustrate the performances obtained by the two detectors.

Processing LHC data in the UK

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is one of the greatest scientific endeavours to date. The construction of the collider itself and the experiments that collect data from it represent a huge investment, both financially and in terms of human effort, in our hope to understand the way the Universe works at a deeper level. Yet the volumes of data produced are so large that they cannot be analysed at...

Performance of an algorithm to discriminate quark and gluon jets with ALICE at the LHC

In this report we study the feasibility of a method that allows to obtain jet samples, from proton-proton collisions, enhanced in quark or gluon content. We compare the performance of the method on pure Pythia Monte Carlo events and after the full reconstruction of the events through the simulation of the ALICE experiment. It is shown that the performance of the method is not deteriorated by ex...

Charm production and energy loss at the LHC with ALICE

The ALICE experiment [1] will study proton–proton (pp), proton–nucleus (pA) and nucleus–nucleus (AA) collisions at the LHC, with centre-of-mass energies per nucleon–nucleon (NN) pair, √ sNN, from 5.5 TeV (for Pb–Pb) to 14 TeV (for pp). ALICE is the dedicated heavy-ion experiment at the LHC and its primary physics goal is the investigation of the properties of QCD matter at the energy densities ...
